Local car dealer got in a relic state '60 502. Looks like it has been sitting 40+ years. Dealer looking for "in the $40k range"

Ahhh, Dodi's... the BHCC of Monterey. He's getting ambitious... a dozen years ago, one could contemplate buying a cheap beater for the week, take it to the Concours d’LeMons and abandoning it afterwards. This is priced too high by a factor of ten for that. The only thing he has at the moment I'd do that with is a poor old Corvair, but it's not LeMons enough.

Are 502’s really this valuable? I ignorantly assumed that nobody cares about these pre-NK land sharks.

They have a following but not as popular as the NK or later stuff. They rust like mad and parts are hard to find - sound familiar.
They do run a nice alloy V8 though. I've one in the shed. One day I might drop it into an E30 for giggles.

very nice car but the problem will be a parts as it is we have a hard time to fined a parts for our E9 how can we fined a parts for this one but when is restored that will be one of the kind BMW

Some cars are worth being saved, honestly this is a parts car & nothing too special about a 502 coupe or sedan. I the grand scheme of post war BMWs the 502s are quite common compared to the 502 Cabriolet, 503 Cabriolet & Coupes & 507 Cabriolets.

Don't think there is a 502 coupe per se, other than a few specials modified by coach builders at the time, these are pretty rare.
The later 502's run an alloy V8 (usually a 2.6L). I've heard of the motors being transplanted into later cars. Image an E21 running a twin carb alloy V8...
