Finally new factory green tint with green shade band windshields are available aftermarket at a reasonable price! These have not been reproduced in many years. XYG Industries, one of the largest global manufacturers of glass have tooled up to make these in limited quantities. There are approximately 4 or 5 available at our distributors in CA & AZ. The price runs $225 ea + box/ crating + freight. they can be picked up and save you the freight related charges.
Feel free to contact us toll free 877-345-2800 or email:[email protected] for additional details. Hopefully this is good news for folks who ahve been waiting to replace a hazy or scratched windshields without incuring a huge expense.
Thank you,
Richard

I'm going to grab one....
Anyone else in the Seattle area thinking of this? Could save on shipping if we go together....

Windshields

You lost me at...China

I understand but you didn't think there would be new Eropean made windshields for $225 out there? Just so everyone knows FYG and XYG Industries are becoming OEM on a lot of Euro and Asian vehicles..OEM isn't what it used to be. A lot of Sekurit Glass is not made in Europe anymore either, just a sign of the times..

China or Bust...

I have a rare sheet of vintage early 2000cs replacement glass for my car, it's clear with no tint, looks like the car it came from never really saw the road it's very clean no marring at all on the glass which is close to 42 years old now! However the original glass is still available from www.wallothnesch.com in clear, and in two different tints. I have inquired about shipping it state side from them they said Luftansa would handle the shipment right to SFO where I could pick it up, it would be about the same cost if you bought it from a BMW dealer maybe a little cheaper that is if they gave you the employee discount figure $300-400 for BMW glass, if your a purist! $225.00 for glass made in China is a little high considering most glass cost about $100.00 $125.00. The last new sheet of glass I bought was for a mid 80's Audi 4000kq, it was $75.00. of which I believe was their cost, all this since I was so pissed off at the guy that installed my new windshield he gave me the warehouse deal after I drove 60 miles listening to air come in through the seal he cut some how, and then I watched a hairline crack appeared from the edge of the glass like someone had mishandled the new glass before they put it in my car. That will be the last time I pay someone to install new glass in my car ever, and the last time I pay for glass twice!

It's is true though, they are making things you would not think of in China now, and old world craftsmanship is now seeing a new twist! If the car is not a 'Garage Queen', then $225.00 is a good deal, maybe...??

Fortunately or unfortunately,, some of the Chinese manufacturers do low production, inexpensive cost glass which is quality. 2 manufacturers hfrom China have become very good on a large percentage of vehicles. Don't be fooled by the manufacturer anymore. It's all bout the dot# and country of origin. Sekurit/St Gobain as well as Sigla make their glass in many countries besides Germany..
Most should be lucky there is actually a manufacturer that even bothers to offer a comparable product cheaper for a vehicle like this where annual sales of windshields is not usually worth their while.
Anyways a couple are still available for pick up in Ca. Feel free to conatct me direct at [email protected]

In over 20 years worth of various coupe ownerships, I have never purchased an aftermarket windshield which fit properly and did not leak.

Carl Nelson can still supply correct, properly-fitting windshield glass for our coupes.

The cost-trade -vs- no-risk install is a no-brainer to me...which is good 'cause I am sure there are some here who'd attest to the idea I have no brain whatsoever! ;-)

I sold Carl when we owned Lo-Can glass quite a few of the CS Coupe windshields and they were not German OEM. Safevue So Africa and Mutolasi which is part of St Gobain made them for many years, We never had them come back. I am sure the OEM was a little better but the differences these dsys are not significant if they have been remade from an original one.

I ordered one from Richard and it arrived in perfect shape the other day.

Communications with Richard and (on one occasion) others in his office was great.

Just wanted folks here to know the outcome- for as far as I have taken it.

As my existing glass is delaminating and has some road rash, I do not need to install this right away (I got the glass for later installation)- But I will let everyone know how this turns out when that happens....

China Or Bust...

Such a stir over glass made in China...' CHINA ' They make great forged crank shafts for SCAT, for your American Muscle Cars... 9000 series crank made in China machined in USA...

Define quality

Can you define "great". My experience with chinese steel is that quality is very inconsistent, and mostly on the low side. A few years back at a major automotive parts manufacturer we pulled all production of steel engine parts back to the US and Europe because of too many warranty claims due to the poor quality of the chinese steel. Camshafts wore out irregularly, rockers would break, etc...

I'm not an expert in glass but it seems to me that if they can be so competitive on such a commodity product there has to be a catch.

Response to Chines e Glass

The catch is they pay their skilled workers what we would pay minimm wage years ago. They have invested heavily into plant and machinery. For the most part at least a couple of companies have produced consistent quality fitting glass.
I wish it was made in USA and Europe but that's beyond what we can control. Not all companies in China are good at what they offer but at least 2 have high enough standards that the problems and complaints are very low relative to their product offering. Just my 2 cents.
