CS Register or Registry?

Stan - that was after the name was changed by Art and Marilyn. It was officially the CS REGISTER for many years.

Roger, what was the original, first name on the first run ever of CS Badges, RegistER or RegistRY?
Soon, very soon, I will be ordering 60+ badges and lapel pins. I am conflicted!

Not to start another debate, but....

Register
Registrar
Registry

I think Registry sounds better, flows better in speech, but I believe Register is more technically correct. Last time I checked out at the store I don't think they used a cash registry. ;-)

I vote Registry...

either way works but the Registry is where the register is kept, right?...

the one i sent a pix of had the correct bmw logo (black outer circle). this one is blue. not sure which is newer / older or correct. Chris, which version is on the front of your coupe? there's another difference - the one that Glenn has a pic of is all the same color blue. the one i've seen has a dark blue in the coupe pictorial and the light blue in the roundel. other difference is periods in usa.

According to the Register/Registry archives, the first badges were "Register" ones, made circa 1992. The second run was "Registry" circa 1999/2000 and appears about 100 of each version were made.

My vote goes to remake the "Register" badge to match the window decal of the same vintage.

Scott,

My badge says Register, I also have an unused decal saying same, both have black in outer circle of roundel. The blue on the coupe is also darker than Glenn's.

The first run of badges had "CS REGISTER"

The officially recognized name by the International Council of BMW Clubs is "CS REGISTER"

It was later changed the CS REGISTRY, but to my knowledge this change was never approved by the International Council of BMW Clubs, and therefore was an unofficial change and not recognized.

As a reminder, technically (and legally) if you are using the BMW Roundel logo in any pictures or correspondence, you have to have approval of BMW to do so. The "CS REGISTER" has that approval to use the logo and reproduce it, and the "CS REGISTRY" does not. These rules were very specific when we (as the CS REGISTER) sought official approval, and after almost a year of getting approval up through BMW NA, BMW AG and the International Council, received their official blessing.

So, I guess at least in my opinion, if this group wants to have its international recognition throughout all the BMW clubs and special interest groups as an officially recognized club, the only choice should be "CS REGISTER". Also, FYI - The CS REGISTER used to be listed in the ROUNDEL as a special interest group.

Hope this clarifies things a little.
Thanks,
Roger

Roger,

I think we should follow your recommendation, thanks for clarifying. It is still listed in the Roundel as well.

+1 on what Roger says. I was active in the CCA back when BMW got all horny about use of their mark. All the chapters - some 60-odd - had to change their logo's to a style approved by BMW. There were, I think, four styles to choose from, approved for use.

I was up in the BMW Car Club of Hawaii and being 'way out in the pond, we held onto our own and very cool logo for a long time, may have been the last to change. But we got a new Chapter Prez and he was very gung ho about making his mark on things, so the old logo went out the door. I still have it on my coupe, along with Art's decal.

Y'all should know, Roger is one of the originals, and it's fortunate to have him onboard as the source for this stuff. And I understand he can clean your teeth too.
