Hi,

Just saw a picture of this CSL on Instagram. Is this the same famous ALPINA LL- L 502 or a replica?
Couldn't reach Yannick's email to ask.

Well, I see a mid 73 and on front valance, an antenna and flag mirror, I say clone.
Yes, I did see the antenna, and mirror, but how did the valance differ (other than the late style grill)? They have even covered the bumper bracket opening.

The outer slots are shorter in preparation for the US big bumpers.
Never knew that. I see a flaw on my car now, since I had to replace the valance on my 2800 and the only new one I found in Iran, is apparently from a US car. Not that it matters, and is hidden under the bumper, but....
Thanks for the info.

Any more details about this car? Who’s instagram? Would love to see some more pictures. I only have a few saved of the original

Found some more info, says it was sold “4/11” meaning April 2011? If not anybody know when?

Taken from:

“This car is a tribute to Alpina's demo car from 1972 known as the "Barbasol car" after its color scheme which resembled the packaging of a shaving creme of the same name. It was a test car for Alpina, and was featured in many publications at the time. This replica was built from a 1975 3.0CS, using an original Alpina engine taken from a B9/1 (E28) and an Alpina close-ratio transmission from an Alpina E12. It also has an Alpina oil-cooled differential, Alpina brakes & Alpina suspension, also from an Alpina E12. The wheels are 16" Alpina racing wheels, made new by Alpina for this car. The interior has Scheel seats, a dead pedal, and other CSL parts that were featured in the original car. $144,600.”

Some obvious differences from the original, still a very cool tribute car, and fetched a premium price at +140k (especially in 2011 if thats accurate)

I did some more digging and found this great article from February 1973 Motorsport magazine about the original car.

The engine bay photo in the article seems to be conflicting the one I posted earlier with carbs, possibly from a different time in the cars life.
Anyone know anything about the “Alpina mechanical injection” system?

Sorry to spam the thread with so many posts haha! Really interesting stuff

Merdad, Not a flaw, these were installed on all coupes beginning in 1973 and the earlier part was not made again. Your coupe is lovely!

There was this famous group of 5 E9 Csls ‘Muskeltiere‘ (muscular animals!) compared to each other off which the Alpina Csl was one of them. Andy/ @Orangener posted some cool info on all the cars with good data too..... and great reading material
