I am doing a bit of research on this car 2275477 and i have never seen or heard of these factory flared rear wheel arches. Has anyone heard of such a thing? Or are they something that has been added aftermarket?

Others here know more than I do, but I have never seen another e9 with rear fenders that are flared like that. I like the look, but it was probably a one-off custom job .

yes that link is the ad that the dealer selling the car. I am questioning weather this claim is true. Everyone i have spoken to has never heard of such a thing

the flares remind me of that car that somebody (perhaps RonP) was working on ... when they stripped all of the other skirts, etc. off of the car.

Hmmm, 400K for a car I would be afraid to drive, but there are a few people out there with the money and who don't suffer from the same fears-hope it ends up in their hands, too cool a car not to drive.

Flare question; I have mentioned this before, but one of the first CS's I ever saw was a faded cranberry color parked outside Bruno's restaurant in Santa Monica, it had box-flared fenders on all 4 corners that protruded only about 2 inches. I was quite familiar with Bavaria's and 320i's at the time and I assumed this was "stock". It had no "wings" or stripes, just those flares and I immediately fell in love with it. Of course I just spent my weeks' pay taking my girlfriend out for drinks so the thought of owning one of these was beyond out of the question but I figured I would ask again just incase anyone ever heard of such a thing- year was about 1985.

I thought this CSL was sold and brought to the Oct 2014 SoCalVintage show in Van Nuys? It received a lot of attention.

That being said, the original owner may have had the dealer or someone else modify the fenders for the BBS wheels upon his purchase, who knows. They aren't the most attractive flares however.

flares

I have a friend who owned a BMW garage. These flares were quite fashionable in the 70's and he had to modify many cars this way. At least 20.
This is in Europe though so I am not sure any of his masterpieces shipped to the other side of the ocean....
He probably wasn't the only one doing his.
