This car was a beautiful car when that idiot purchased it in 2008
ie Schwartz black , with engine mods , 240/280 bhp , Motorsport colours painted into the paint etc etc
This car was one of my dream cars to buy when I was a teenager ,
I tried to trace this car for the past 13yrs, trying to find out who owned it and if they would sell it ,
Jay Kay decided he wanted his car turned from black to silver and rest is history !!!

he ruined a already beautiful car and turned it into a normal standard looking csl

if he wanted a silver car , just buy a silver car
The guys got more money than sense !!!

At least my search for one of my dream Csl cars is over !!!

Man no CSL owner can win. We have one thread talking about CSL’s being “wrong” for not being factory perfect. Then in this thread, a highly modified CSL going back to factory specs is “ruined”. Did consumer spec CSL’s ever leave the factory in Schwarz? Would be cool to see!

Personally, I don’t think Jay Kay is an idiot. He is an innovative musician and certified car nut. He ranked 12th out of 65 for fastest non-professional lap time on Top Gear. I wouldn’t call anyone who took a rare vehicle back to factory appearance an idiot, even if it was my childhood dream car.

Jay kay is a idiot and gets his pants pulled down from most car dealers he buys cars from by over paying for certain cars and on maintenance etc etc
And he’s struggles to pay his garage bills ... no wonder he’s a millionaire,

Idiots with more money than sense in the classic car sector are a disease and they are good and bad for business ie they over pay on certain cars and drive the prices up
And they ruin certain cars that are already in very good condition

jay kay name is allegedly linked to ownership of more than 500 RHD Csl cars in his time ,
if you believe the narrative being pushed by certain auctions and car dealers !!!

Please, someone, tell me why all of these measures were made to lighten these cars down to super thin carpets ,and yet the steel Petri steering wheel is more than twice the weight of any Aluminum wheel....

Funny you should say that. The carbureted lightweights had an aluminum wheel and aluminum hub.

But how come car guys want to spend over $3K to have the leather-covered so-called Petri CSL wheel? Was that the standard wheel in the fuel-injected cars?
Here's another funny thing-I just sold my V8 5.0 Ford Explorer that I kept in great condition for 25 years for $3200. That would almost buy me a steering wheel....!!
Note in the pic that I painted the lower parts and wheel inserts Ford Calypso Green 24 years ago. That color is now known in BMW circles as Turkis.

@Drew Gregg,

Here are my thoughts:

1. The CSL Petri is very rare. It is the most touched and worked item on the car, second only to the scheel seats. The leather has been subject to 50 years of tugging, and owners using the wheel as a handle while sliding over the aggressive seat bolsters. Only about 1,200 CSL’s were produced.

2. The wheel is required to make a $150-$450K CSL “Correct”.

3. Buyers interested in this wheel are owners of a $150K+ play thing investment, or steering whee collectors with a room full of other rare steering wheels. Both the demand and the funds are present.

4. Unlike most momo and other desireable wheels, the CSL wheel is unique only to the CSL. The, hub, cover, and wheel are different from all other Petri wheels.

Your ford explorer is well maintained, and certainly rare in it’s own right due to condition. However, Ford sold about 400,000 gen 2 explorers per year for 7 years. So although yours is in great condition, 2.8M were made. Domestic SUV’s have huge production numbers, are generally beat to hell, and don’t retain any value. The Explorer has never been a desirable vehicle in the off-road community. A jeep wrangler from the same time period is worth 3x-4x that if the explorer. More if modified.

Jay Kay's CSL

CarScoops: Jay Kay’s Rare 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL Needs A Home.

Back to the original topic, at least this will give us a barometer for what a very average RHD CSL is worth these days. They seem to be at the bottom of the food chain for lightweights.
Listing says the car was born yellow. It would pull a lot more money in that color IMO. But JayKay just does what he does. His former tastefully hot rod Ferrari 250 GTE just re sold at auction a few ago in the 600s IIRC, which is healthy money for that car.

Sandhu, just a note to reassure you that I am the safer type of idiot. And not because I have much sense :).

Are there any photos of when it was Schwartz black? Would love to see how it previously looked.

Well I didn’t have to change my pants after the last Schwarz motorsport 221 listed (below). I think I can handle it. If you wish to continue the stereotype that CSL owner’s hoard useful info, by all means send the pics in secret.

You can question my state of mind, but only one of us is calling a fellow CSL owner an idiot and labeling members unfit. A smiley goes a long way! ;)

The csl owner am calling a idiot is Jay Kay....just because he shites money every day,
don't mean he should ruin a perfectly restored csl ......it's his car and his money and he can do what he likes with it ...

From a personal view, and from a csl point of view....with out prejudice

I think jay Kay the idiot has ruined what was once a amazing looking car and turned it into a lemon ....

A E9 expert viewed this car and he valued it for a client at 65/70k max...their are issues with the car

So I think jay Kay got his pants pulled down again ,
by being ripped off by the so-called E9 specialist, based in Sussex England , UK
who he gave the car to
To fully restore back to its formal glory

That's the view on jay Kay , his car , and the rip off E9 specialist !!!!

Not sure I should wade into this but....THIS Schwarz csl looks great. The person who bought it paid good money and in my opinion can decide to drive it as is or make changes if they choose to. It’s THEIR car. But for the record I would prefer a golf csl (which this car was originally). Also for the record, I have virtually no social media presence except this website precisely because it’s not a constant barrage of name calling. One man’s idiot is another mans friend.
