CSL Front Air Damn Problem

I recently purchased a replica CSL air damn from [email protected]. After an quick test fit yesterday, it is almost 4-6" too wide, in addition to being slightly too shallow an angle on the curvature back. Dan mentioned the front of these cars vary that much from the factory, but that seems a bit extreme to me. For reference, the entire front end of my coupe is original, never damaged or replaced (hard to believe, I know)

As a result, I would need to massively modify it to fit. Is this consistent with what others have seen?

that looks like a dam made for one of the packages with fender flares. shouldn't be that wide. the cars don't vary that much in width. i have one of his 635 style spoilers and its only 1/4" too wide. something is completely wrong ... send him that picture.

Not consistent with what I have seen and experienced. Bought mine from Vintage Sports & Restoration and it fits perfectly. Suggest you return that air dam & purchase one from VSR1.com

Thanks all. I sent this picture to him, which prompted to response that it was correct, and just a variation in the car, but this is just too far off for that to be the only issue. I think this one is just off.

Man I'd be pissed if someone tried to convince me it's because of varations between cars.. Sure if it was half an inch or so, but 4-6" off..
A bad product is what it is, and should be replaced/money returned with big apologies from the seller.

on second measurement, its now actually like 3-4 inches on each side. Talking to him now about returning.

I would say wrong product instead of bad product. Dan will probably realize it's wrong and correct it. Fiberglass parts never fit and some are pretty bad depending on what you're using them for... flares, airdams, I've seen really bad stuff for Porsche, etc. It's the nature of the material and process. You usually just hope for a good starting point.

I would suggest to Dan that he accidentally sent you the wrong dam ... one that works with one of the flare packages he sells ... maybe even his fabricator mislabeled it. there is no way that one intended for a standard CS could be that far off. the clue is, look at the location of the air duct holes in relation to the bumper slots in both your picture and Adawil2002's pic. - its basically the same. now look at the dimension from the end of the dam to the center of the hole ... its close to the same distance as from the center of the dam to the center of the hole. the dimension from the hole to the end of the dam should be a lot shorter.

Okay, but Dan has already seen the picture, and anybody who knows anything about the products he's selling (and producing?) should very quickly come to the conclusion that this needs to be fixed, no matter if it's a wrong part or a bad part. Not send back messages blaming/saying it's the customers car that's wrong. Since Dan himself says it's the correct air dam, then it simply is a bad product, or Dan don't want to deal with the problem at hand.
I know all too well that fiberglass parts usually isn't (even close to) bolt on, I spent many hours installing my air dam, but in my opinion this is not reasonable.

Hope it all works out:)

If i wanted a CSL type air dam, i would buy the one from Mario (as Andrew did). Mario basically over-engineers everything so it will withstand use and abuse ... including track use. then he has things made with the best methods. all you have to do is ask the e30 m3 crowd ... and Stan + Andrew

Im not sure who Max got our kit from But none of the panels fit for $#!% , and like the poster here our front spoiler was also several inchs too wide , and we got reallt wide fenders, Im not certain that the flares really have much to do with how the airdamn fits. This $%&@! kit has cost us a tremendous amount of money to get fitted ,

That’s a group 5 type dam.
Same as the Calder ....

“Dan mentioned the front of these cars vary that much from the factory, but that seems a bit extreme to me”

If Jeff says it’s true then Dan knows it’s true....

They do not vary that much... maybe a cm or so but that's it. That spoiler is for a flared car.
