My car does not have a built in fog light in the rear valance/ number plate thing - but has one attached hanging under the bumper.... is that correct as I have looked on the net and a few CSLs have them in the valance....

I'm no expert but I thought they were all euro and hence, had the light integrated into the panel.

That what Marc assumes is correct. Early 2800‘s and oddly enough, UK Csls often didn’t have the rear inbuilt fog lights, the were attached below the bumper. There is also a particular metal extention that attaches the fog light to the rear valence.... attached pic of a RHD Csl shows the non fog light rear panel....

I think you can go either way. All chrome bumpers have factory provisions for a rear bumper-mounted fog light. You can see in the factory ad for the 2800CS (see “vs plane” in videos). I know that the rear integrated fog was an early option, because the heavy chrome (early) tail trim panels with fog cutouts do exist. I can only infer from this that BMW was doing both for one reason or another. It is quite possible that the advertising firm borrowed a car from a dealer and not the factory, or this ad predated the integrated fog tail panel.

Likewise, the CSL was most certainly offered with and without the factory fog cutout. See an example NOS CSL panel below. I have other supporting pics of this panel including the part number sticker and the gauge thickness. It belongs to a forum member. You will also note that it is missing the underrider holes because the CSL did not have underriders.

If you want to cutout the integrated fog hole, I can send you my template. Also, if you want the location of the factory chrome bumper fog
light hole, I can shoot you the measurement.

Doesn't all RHD cars need to have the fog light on the right side by law? Therefore no integrated fog light (on the left side).
This is just a guess without any research from my side.

Good point Robert (as seen in the pics above) but if I recall, @Michael Kaye RHD Csi has the integrated one (left side), could be mistaken though.
Here is another RHD CSL belongs to @daddywad.....

LHD CSL’s yes....The pic I posted above is from a RHD CSL without the integrated fog light, one of the last 20 RHD CSL‘s.

Good point! Also, now I don’t need to send my template to the UK! :D The chrime bjmper has the holes on both sides. Offer still stands to take the measurement, unless you already have the chrome bumpers @Marc-M (seems likely with RHD).

BTW - There is no reason why you couldn’t make a RHD integrated fog if you wanted to. As you can see the panel is symmetrical. Probably best not to do sheetmetal customizations on a CSL though.

I think it would be fair to assume that none of the RHD CSL‘s had the integrated fog lights, quite possibly/ surely for the reason that Robert deduced.
@Markos....... over riders might have been there too?

@Michael Kaye does also have the fog under the bumper, on the right side :)
But a quick search on google resulted in a RHD coupe with integrated fog light, but mostly under the bumper on the right side, and the rest without any fog light.
Maybe the one who has the integrated fog was modified at some point?

Integrated RHD

Mine (NEW 504P) has the fog light beneath the bumper on the RHD (I wasn't aware any cars had integrated fog lights - can someone post a clear pic for me?).

Notes : Mine is a 74' Facelift car so not sure that makes a difference (it does have a 5 slat black CSL grill from new!). The first car I tried to buy (WET L00K) seems not to have a rear fog light at all.

So what is the conclusion ?
