Has anyone done this recently? It seems most parts are NLA. Mine isnt that high mileage but has play between the input and output shaft so I was hoping to have this taken out. Anyone got any advice/warnings?

thanks!

I rebuilt the manual ZF box from an e3 and installed it in my e9 - shouldn't be any different than yours other than the close ratio.

The seals are pretty much all that is available but you should be able to find substitutes for the bearings if they look like they need replacing - mine didn't so back in they went. A thorough cleaning and de-greasing of caked dried "schmeg" in grooves of the worm gears can make a big difference in the ability to remove the play with the fine adjustment screw.

The only warning is to keep the three sets of needle bearings in separate marked containers and make sure they go back in in the same location when reassembling as there are two different sizes.

ZF steering box....

In the course of restoring a few old race CSL`s we have run out of high ratio gears that are useable. So we are looking into making some new ones should anyone need them.

Any ballpark on cost?
