I enjoy watching Larry Chen's "Car Culture" show on the Hagerty streaming video channel.

The latest episode featured RS Watanbe, a Japanese manufacturer of fully hand-built, fully custom aluminum or magnesium wheels. (They use sand casting with lots of post-machine work.) Watanbe started building racecars in the 60's and then began making wheels in 1981.


If you own a 240Z, a Fairlady (or other JDM cars from the 60s, 70s or 80s), you might want these...

I saw that video a while ago, it's surprising their yields are as high as they are with those processes. That said, I admire hand-made skilled items like that, plus the price isn't so bad when you compare it to some offerings from BBS, Hartge, etc. I wonder how it would look on a coupe?
 

After watching the video documenting the process of creating rims at Watanabe Wheels, an association comes to mind with the process of creating a real Katana.
