I've just got my car back from the bodyshop after having both sills and rear wheelarches replaced, as well as some cosmetic work under the bonnet.

It's come back with a perpelexing cold start issue, that may have happened during the works and refit, as it was functioning fine before it went in.

With the ignition on, in the first position, the cold start injector is firing fuel when the engine is cold, and thus flooding the manifold and making it very difficult to start. As i understand it, it shouldn't fire until the engine is turned, with the ignition in the second position. Interestingly enough this isn't the case when the engine is warm, suggesting that the mechanical function of the cold start system is working correctly.

I've cheked all connections to relays, sensors, thermotime switch and all check out. i'm guessing that if the relay is at fault the injector wouldn't fire at all. I'm assuming my problem is electrical but so far haven't been able to nail it.

Any clues would be appreciated

Try mine

Christopher,
Worst case park it next to mine and compare the voltages etc, I'm only 1 hour away in Essex and would be pleased to try help. As they say, "what goes around comes back around".

There is a section in the "Blue Books" describing some tests to be done for the cold start function. No access to the books right now, so I can't post the section to you at this moment.

Thanks Charles for the offer. I'm guessing it's likely to be a wiring rather than component issue so may need to take you up on your offer

Stefan. Appreciate the tip. I've taken a look on testing the relay and thermotime switch
