Looking for an unbiased :-) opinion on worth or price I should pay for a dash core in "fair" condition. The owner said to make an offer and I want to be fair- of course free is always best but I don't think that would work so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Depends what "fair" means too. Photos ? I'd back into the core price based on the cost of rebuilding it from JustDashes. I "think" I paid about $1500 for mine (the padded bits, all perfect)

If you just want the wood parts (including the door pieces) and the wood is de-laminating then $200.00
all the padded parts... again if they are basically unusable and need to be recovered, they are not worth a lot. Another $200.00

I did this years ago. Bought a core, did the wood and dash then sold the cores I removed from my coupe to another E9 owner who wanted to do the same thing. I am going to repeat that process with console sides. Bought a set to be re-upholstered, when I swap in the new set I will sell the old set for the price I paid ($100.00)

You have to factor in the if you are buying (need it) and selling (want to move it/make money)...I have purchased just the three piece dash wood for as little as $40 plus shipping, and as much as $100, all with some issues on delamination...moisture or not, it's 40 year old hide glue that eventually turns to dust; just quicker with with moisture...But you can "happen" into a full set (7-8 pieces) for around $100...as most people don't have the time, patience, skill-set to restore properly, and restoring a "core set" is akin cloning a person from a spare nose...The most difficult piece to find a core for are the door pieces, as they are quite fragile because of the ashtray cut out...Do be kind to the seller on shipping, as it's tough to find/custom make a box for long skinny wood parts... just my $.02 worth..

I made an offer for the dash pieces only so hopefully the seller will accept. The recovering does not scare me half as much as doing the actual replacement but I have some "hidden customizations" I want to do while it's out and I'll ask, but do you all suggest removing the windshield for this lobotomy?

Thanks
