The temperatures have dipped below freezing here in Southeastern PA, Bucks County. And probably colder in my uninsulated, unheated garage. So yesterday when I was in the garage the dehumid.
was making an odd noise.

Took the filter screen off the front and there was a 1/2 inch sheet of ice on the front. Shut it off, checked today with the temps in the 50s and ice is gone. A garden hose directs the water outside. Fortunately I can check temps on my phone and shut the power to the garage from the house. Don't ask, I won't tell.

I believe the "low temp" versions of these non-desiccant dehumidifiers work to about 40 or 41 degrees Fahrenheit. I suspect lower than that and something freezes.

Sounds like something I remember. What do you think about 35 degrees Fahrenheit as the cutoff point? Or should I switch off at 40?

Good question. I can't find any literature to provide the precise answer. But even our 41 degree units start losing efficiency below 60 degrees. So at 41, I think it must already be at a pretty low threshold. Maybe try 35 or 38 and see if it stays unfrozen?
