Differential noise

Is the noise new or was it always there?

Don is the expert on how to renew the differential. Check if the fluid has metal shavings to see if there is destructive grinding going on. I was told differentials should last forever...

What kind of noise? High pitched whining, grinding or something else?

It is a humming noise and it starts with speeds above 80 Km/h.
On the bridge with running ingine the noise is clearly coming from the diff.

I will check the oil as the diff is coffered under oil as the seal of the drain bolt is leaking.

It might help to determine if the humming is occurring when on the accelerator, at a neutral coast or off the accelerator completely.

Change the the fluid and see if it quiets down. Depending on how long it was low on fluid the bearings might be cooked.

I was driving a Camaro with a bad input shaft bearing when the bearing spun. Twisted the pinion off, jammed it into the ring gear and carrier, and locked the diff up. Good times.

I have changed the oil from the diff. Lost some oil but still approximate 1,2 liter was in it.
Oil lost was due to old seals used for the plug.
The noise is less but not gone.
The car is a 3.0 CSA what kind of diff. is used for it?
What are the tips for a new diff. (replacement)?

Regards,
Nico
