I had one of these $10 parts on order with ECS for months, and without it I couldn't mount the external rear side window chrome trim.

This is the part, it goes on top of the quarter panel, screws to the pinch seam, then the trim goes over top with a screw you can see once the door is open.

I had seen moldable thermoplastic used in a youtube video on Audi Q7 sunroof drain repair. They are small plastic beads that become moldable in semi-hot water.

Using the trim as the mold, and out of the mold.

Once it cools, the plastic is chunky, kind of like ABS. I made both sides.

This is the part of project restoration that I love. "Where did you find that part?" - "I made it".

No mold release needed. I put the trim with the plastic still inside into the freezer for 10 minutes or so and it came out easily.

Working the plastic can be a little difficult, drilling or cutting it gets it hot enough to become pliable again, so you have to improvise. But overall, a good solution for this type of plastic part.

I use this for other projects. Great stuff. If you get worried about needing mold release, just use plastic wrap to line whatever it's in.
