Do shock absorbers have a shelf life?

I am wondering what vintage exactly they are. I used some in my coupe when I drove it across Canada. Well half way, anyways.

The missing 1st 2 digits in the part # must be 31 or 33 for front or rear axle...I haven't spent much time hunting the part number. The3rd and 4th digit must be the procedure for springs....A winter project. Love hunting:grin:

Hi Restart,

Not to hijack a post but I have been trying to get in touch with you as far as who you are to get together. I have sent you a couple of PM's with no answer. I work on a lot of E9's here in the Vancouver area and maybe we could be mutually beneficial to both of us because of all the parts that you have mentioned. Not answereing my PM's cause me to ask here publicaly in the open forum

Thanks, Rick

Pretty sure I sent you a pm telling you I don't have any calipers for you. Apologies if you didn't get it.
Pm sent.

I bought a new set of Bil HDs When I put them on the car they wouldn’t move. Sent them back to Bil for warranty and they said nothing wrong with them they can just stick when laying on a shelf. It takes a shock dyno or some such to break them loose.I got pissed and had a set of konis custom built and then when I heard from Bil I picked up a set of sports which will go in shortly . Konis cost me $700 to have built by the best Koni guy in the US who is in Phx. Oh well, another lesson learned the hard way. But your Bils should still be good. If your Bils need it, Bil is $75 a shock for a rebuild to stock specs.
