No doubt it is a Becker stereo fader control. Wired to front and rear speakers and to the Becker amplifier that is typically mounted to the inside of the firewall above the glove box. Most Becker (Grand Prix models) stereo units had separate amps. State of art stuff for the early 70's. Is the stock Becker still installed?

Now I see the old DIN plugs. Strange location as it was certainly not accessible while driving back then, but in the future...................scares me.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner. Although I do like googly-eyed smile knob (I need that one) it in fact is the radio fader from front to back. THANK YOU VERY MUCH...would not have figured that one out on my own.

In this day of distracted driving it brings a smile to my face thinking back to 1971 and someone opening the hatch, searching for the knob under the dash and trying to adjust the fade to American Pie by while flying down the freeway....scary especially with these seat belts!

PS for those young ones its the song American pie not the movie.
