Hi , I got the hose (thank you for your help) I am running the tube from under the battery .... is this ok ? or should it be in same level as radiator out let on top?

I would not run that hose down there.
Remember what it’s function is- the hose is used to remove bubbles created in the cooling system and to assist the water pump.
BMW provided attachment points on both models for that hose at the same height as the tank and radiator nipples.
Very few things need to be changed from BMWs original engineering.
Final answer- same level as outlet on radiator.

Don,

do you have pictures of these attachment points? My hose is running level from the radiator to the tank, but not attachted to some points.

Best regards, Henny

Wow, I have never noticed a bracket under the air intake assembly for the hose. What kind of clip is it? I'm not near my car or I'd go look.

My '76 3.0 Si had a nice little grommeted bracket at the PS reservoir for the hose. But never have seen it on an E9.

What a discovery, I never liked the unsupported long run that hose makes.

Went searching for old pictures of my car and found one from when I bought it that shows it:
