Hi!
Hopefully, an easy one for the experts - I have got a donor M30B35 for my E9 and noticed it misses oxygen / lambda sensor. Googled and found someone mentioning it might happen you do not have those for the engine from the factory, as that was still an option for that time (M30B36 came from 1987 735i). Is that true or should I install one?

My understanding is that they are typically used on catalytic systems to measure gases and allow the computer to make adjustments, I know they can also be used without cats to help adjust your air/fuel/timing settings. If you're not going to run a cat I'd probably plug it with a threaded plug and give yourself an option for using it later if needed..

does the engine loom have a wire with connector for a sensor? does the air flow meter have an adjuster screw? Pat

What’s the vin number.
What country are you in?
What harness?
What OS are you going to use?
What ECU?
If use carbs you might want a wide band.
A 150 or 179 needs a narrow band with a factory connector.

Thanks everyone. I am based in Latvia, EU. Not a tech guru, so difficult to answer on all your questions, sfdon, but basically I am transplanting everything engine related from the donor car that has euro specs (VIN WBAGB310701626970), including ECU and injection system (Motronics 1.3). Seems that there is a connector you could use, but you miss both the sensor itself and seems factory threaded plug is just used in place where you could plug in sensor. Have no intention now go with cat, so probably will leave it as it is, and install later, if have some suspicion engine is not working as it should be.
BTW - guys, any feedback on La Jolla Independent Special 3.0cs Lowering Springs? Looking how to lower a car a bit, and found those ones in the forum and net. Any good alternatives known, avoiding cutting the original ones?

I'll have to check, but I think the O2 sensor wires are black and white? Will have to look at the motor in the garage.

I think you should definitely install an O2 sensor if the motor is wired for it.

Uk cars for a while came CAT prepared and so had the wiring and connector with a blanking bung, no cat or probe but you could retrofit, where are you in Latvia, been there many times, have a good friend in Ogre, may be going there for a vintage motorcycle rally in 2018, Pat

The ecu has a default setting that produces a .45 volt internal signal whenever there is no external signal.
