I bought some remanufactured door brakes for my 2002 yesterday and the service provider said he would be interested to see if the CS brakes can be redone in a similar manner.

Anybody have a spare old one kicking around? I can send mine, but I'd have to take my door apart to do so. I can cover the postage to him. …or maybe he can.

Harry cuts, shortens and welds MB door brakes, does a great job too. There are several posts on using existing MB door brakes.

He told me as long as all the parts are there it would let him see if his repair method will work. He offered to pay shipping.
Chris, just wondering if the factory 2002 brakes were painted when new?

Do you mean using existing (that is, unmodified) MB door brakes for e9's or for 2002's?

I had understood that the door brake problem was solved for e9's by using brakes from a later BMW. La Jolla Independent shows these on their website with a price of $95 each. See: http://www.bimmerdoc.com/parts-finder/bmw/1800ti20022000c3-0700/e9-2800cs30cscsicsl/door-brakes-coupe/ At present, their site also says: "currently unavailable". So perhaps Harry's solution would be better for an e9.

i have a NOS e9 door brake. penske lists 51210301600 for $88.53. tomkinson is $67.28. why not just buy a new one? the original part number 51211819364 was superseded by the part above. anybody know what the difference is? BTW - the LJI part number is the original one ... so not exactly sure what is going on.

I have some extras

I have an old, worn out door brake that you could have. Will fit into the cheapest USPS one-rate box. Let me know where to send it.

Thanks Bfeng. Sounds like the candidate.
I'll let you know his address in a PM. The guy who makes the 2002 door brakes has offered to cover shipping or offer a discount on a rebuild if it is possible to do.

Bob.

The original door brakes are flat, the BMW replacements look very different and are expensive. MB brake was less than $30 and looks like originals on the visible portion of the brake.

I have an MB one on my car, there is a midway detent but the hole for the pin is too big so I got half a trimmed piece of silicon vacuum tube in there to tighten it up.

Chris, is the MB one on your Coupe the same one in the Ebay link?
If yes, can you describe how it feels? Is there a mid way detent?
