presumably my door lock knobs have been modified by a PO. does anybody have a pair with the linkage that they would be willing to part with.

its #13 on 41/12 ... they are so inexpensive and still available ... i will try to pull mine off and buy new ones.
51211805643 is listed as a lock BUTTON.....you description as lock KNOB is much better!
