After fitting new door rubbers at Christmas the doors take so much force to close that I fear that I am going to break something inside, I looked at them again yesterday and had an idea..... Maybe they can be sanded to reduce their bulk/ thickness?...

Same thing with with E24.

Time and heat helps. Shop left the car in the sun for a while for that and to cure the paint.
And use helps, my driver side feels better than passenger side by now.

Last resort, do you have Gold's gym over there?

Reducing thickness

I tried that but it didn't help much although I'm sure someone could do a better job than I did. I tried the rubber piece at the A pillar shaved down and that helps.

I think the problem is the lower part of the seal, the moulded piece that joins the two lengths is not the problem, I too removed it and it made no difference, so I am thinking that some fairly aggressive sanding on the inside face may help.
The rubbers have been on the car for over six months now and Australia is not know for its lack of sun..... I don't want to destroy these seals because they are not exactly cheap.

My friend has new seals and it defintiely is crushing up against the A pillar, probably is a individual installation issue

That piece at the A pillar was loose on mine so I took it out and tried the door. No change at all, it isn't the issue.

The piece that joins upper and lower seals is not apparently an issue. The A pillar can be an issue since frame is adjustable.

Did you fit them yourself?

Yes, pretty straight forward, but I also used some 40 grit sand paper to sand the inside of the seal that runs from the base of the screen down to the sill, I probably removed 25% of the rubber and also cut away most of the inside of the joining piece with a Stanley knife to reduce the bulk, invisible from the outside but really helped to reduce the effort needed to close the doors, drivers side perfect, passenger side just needs a firm hand to close properly.

With new W & N seals at first my doors wouldn't close without a mighty slam. I set them at the outer most adjustment of the catches and over time, one year, they have compressed to the point where the doors close properly with a firm "thunk". Okay they don't self close but the adjustment is now correct and the doors fit flush. At least I know I have a good seal.

That's good to know. I am looking to buy some.
