Any water that gets by the window scrapers for the rear side windows... from where is it supposed to drain? I just want to make sure I know the location and can be sure any drains are clear.
+1 Yep, drains into the rockers/sills, from there it needs to drain out the 3 x drainage holes, for this very reason I have put a lot of effort into getting as much rust proofing spray in the rockers as possible
Yes, a certain amount of rain & wash water always gets inside the doors & quarters :-(, that is why it’s so important to have the thin plastic sheet sealed to the door before installing inner interior panels. One of my biggest peeves with mutt body men is they leave those completely off or install the interior panels when there’s rips & tears in the vapor barriers, it’s kind of an embarrassment to the trade. ~ John Buchtenkirch
Unfortunately many times the lower edges of the rocker panels are crushed upward from the lifting pads on lifts & floor jacks, also unfortunate the drains may well be crushed closed too. If the metal is solid they may be able to be repaired, if rusty I wouldn’t touch them, you could easily do more damage that good. The very lowest point on the rockers is where you should be looking for the drains. Possibly they may also be filled with undercoating. ~ John Buchtenkirch
P.S. I spent probably 3 hours removing the mutt caused ugliness :-x from the bottom of my rocker edges but I was very fortunate that they were as solid as my pre-ownership inspection had led me to believe . The previous owner couldn’t believe I was crawling around under the car on cardboard for over an hour before even considering a test drive. The first coupe I looked at in Texas took a 3 minute inspection and I walked (no ran) away. I paid them $40 to drive me to the bus station and was pretty discouraged.
You forget Rule #1: Our darling coupes do not like water, be it from the tap or the sky.
I stopped cleaning them with a running hose about 8 years ago. Wheels yes, and sometimes lower parts of front fenders/doors, but nothing else.
