Has anyone used a shop in the southeast to shorten their driveshaft as part of the 5spd conversion? My mechanic used to use a shop about 30 miles away but the mainly do trucks. His concern is their tools may be too massive to balance the thinner BMW.

I am assuming it can be marked and shipped somewhere since it's chopped and balanced out of the car.

A "truck" place may be ideal, there are all different size trucks and some have multiple drive shafts (small, medium & large). I would trust your mechanic if they said the truck place could not do it, but just because they do trucks doesn't mean they can't do yours- they may be better at it since truck driveline balancing is much more common than passenger car balancing. Just a thought- Also, La Jolla probably has one on the shelf ready to go if you want to go that route. Heck it may be mine since I sent them back my core when I got mine from them. :-)
