DRIVER SIDE DOOR SWITCH

I have a US model with electric windows. My door switch is missing. I haven't dug into it yet because the car will shortly be taken apart for rust repair but I'm wanting to get all the bits I'll need so I'm ready to go and not waiting for parts.
I was planning to add relays to the window motors to lessen the load on the switches and maybe speed things up as was suggested in an earlier post. I still don't get what the door switch might have to do with the windows.

Thanks for the help.

For the US at least it is a feature that lets you use the window before using ignition switch. Open the driver door and windows will operate. Also anti theft, can't insert a stick into car and hit one of the switches.

I have leccy windows all round

Same here. Euro with power windows front and rear. Confirmed single pin. Must be a US feature.

Very interesting. I hadn't considered the anti-theft facet.
Thanks for the help. Great photo Mark.

There is only one relay, if you push the button in you can hear it click. Steve, you can't open windows unless key is on?

May have been introduced when circuit breakers were added and motors changed:

No, I need the key. This is my plunger switch, is this what it should look like if I have the relay, and where should the relay be? I will check.

guys, i have a '71 2800cs (us spec car), and it has the same switch Steve has ... and has 2 separate wires. i do not have the window circuit breakers ... well i actually have them in the panel since i have a '74 telescoping steering column and the '74 trim panel ... they just aren't wired up.

one wire goes to the interior light and the other goes to the passenger side.
hence two wires which are always hot and the switch grounds it
