Driving without the front bumper

I went front bumperless with a CSL air dam for years (avatar pic), then debated for a couple of years then finally added it back, so apparently I feel strongly both ways. My new-to-me 2002 is front air dam/no bumper and will remain so.

Has anyone figured out a way to make this an easy process to remove and install at will?

In a perfect world, I could decide before going out whether I wanted the bumper on or off

No. :)

I don’t think it would be terribly difficult. The frame mounts would have pins with a snug fit and zero adjustability. You move all of the bumper adjustability to the area outside of the bumper, behind the chrome. However, you would have limited wrench access to the adjustment nuts and bolts. You would probably need to pull the pins, slide the bumper forward, adjust, and repeat until you got it right.

Markos, i would make a support for the bumper ,with a quick release handle in the car, so i can drive on and off ....
like a tractor picking up his tools....:D:D

Sounds like something Q would rig up on Bond's Aston Martin: "pay attention, 007 - now when you press the button here, the front bumper will disappear"

We have our own Q on this forum, except we call him DQ, DeQuincey !

Unfortunately I have never been able to source all correct parts for E9 chrome bumpers. I find it strange that from BMW you can order (in new condition), about 80% of the bumper components (front and rear), but there are a few random (and essential bumper) parts that are NLA. I have found these missing parts to complete the full E9 bumpers impossible to find.

If BMW (or someone) were to make 100% complete repo E9 chrome bumpers, with the rubber strips, under-riders, mounts etc, for front and rear, I think there would be good interest in these.

Maybe more owners would consider putting their E9 bumpers back on, if they were readily available to buy in full.
