Duane's Alpina Appears Again

close to my first drive of 2014 - then off for a track day

Cheers Stan and Andrew

I am hoping to pickup my coupe for the first drive of the 2014 driving season shortly!

In a few weeks I will be heading back to Lime Rock CT for a track day with SCDA (Sports Car Drivers Association) - and of course that will be in my coupe!…. cannot wait to stretch the legs of the coupe and test the new brake setup on track :-)

Photos from my SCDA fun last time…

Did you switch to Fuel Injection?

Duane, one thing I like about your car is the period-correctness. I heard Mario grumbling about how much better FI is over the Alpina Weber setup. Are you still on carbs this year?

I love my Webers (the sounds, smell, and authenticity)

Happy new year John! Yes I am 100% committed to my Webers in the Coupe. Be rest assured I am a die hard Weber (and also fellow Australian Mark Webber) fan.

Living in Boston can be tough, but driving through the long tunnels underneath the city (aka "Big Dig") with the windows down, accelerating enthusiastically… a magical noise bellows from those triple Webers 40DCOE

the photo used in the Bavarian Auto "Interior" catalog

It's the Klaus Schnitzer interior shot from the Bimmer Magazine article.

this is the photo used (or one very similar) by Bavarian Auto catalog on the "INTERIOR" section.

Yep, that's why I am hooked too.

Spring is officially here!

Those of us who store our coupes with Mario at VSR in NH look forward to this time of year. For many of us, its been 5-6 long months since we have driven our coupes so its like getting a new car each Spring. I never tire of it.

A couple of miles down the road from Mario's shop, there is a toll booth that restricts entry onto the highway. I leave the window down after paying the toll as there is a long tunnel a couple of hundred yards after the toll booth or just when you are in the lower revs of second gear. I always look forward to the first of the season second and third gear pull through that tunnel "at full song" as Murray would say. I don't have tri-webs like Duane but I do have dual 38s with a freer exhaust, so the noise is terrific. Following the tunnel is a nice esse entry ramp onto the highway. This will be year 14 for me on Sunday morning. Can't wait!

Hey Duane, just for kicks, try removing the cold air box and installing Ram-Flo's. You'll notice an improvement in HP and the induction noise will send a thrill up your leg - it's actually stronger than the exhaust note. It's fun but it can get tiresome after a while - then you'll put the air box back on for a little peace and quiet.

Cheers, mate. Enjoy the spring.
