My friend Rey has this S38 powered Golf 530 on BaT, check it out, it’s a stunning car.

Momma Mia, that’s a spicy e12.
Should set a new standard. Will be fun to watch.

that is an amazing e12. i love the a/c switches around the clock. i would love to do a custom e9 or 2002 panel with the fan switch around the vdo clock or a gauge.
the 75 / 76 e12 look so different with the wide center on the hood. i have always liked that. the gas cap on the back panel is also great as it keeps the rear fender so clean without the flap.

the scheel seats and the italvolanti wheel look great in the car as do the period correct bbs mahle wheels

If Rey is your friend ask him to stop the auction and find a buyer here. Why all the public exposure?
Have you driven the car?
Not trying to be anti social here but all we do is pick on the cars on BaT and some bidder comes out of left field and bids all the money and goes away. I'll eat my hat if the high bidder is one of us. Heck, I'll eat my motorcycle helmet (carbon fiber)!

Not sure if that is observation or criticism. My motto is: when it comes to bidding wars I am a pacifist.
I would rather overpay and have a 1:1 classy negotiation with a seller instead of an auction.

Just so you know, these fan switches have similar issues to our e9 fan switches!

I'm not sure I'll ever qualify for "one of us" - being vastly less knowledgeable and less engaged than most on here - but figured I'd share my experience as someone who bought an e9 on BAT @Strato102 @Arde. I looked for a while for an e9. It's a car I wanted for about 20 years. I lurked on the forum for years, test driving a few that popped up around LA, and slowly learned a bit about how complex buying and owning an e9 can be. As my search went from passive to active, I eventually joined the forum. I seriously considered and went and saw some cars that were posted here for sale, and ultimately ended up picking up the 2800cs @craterface sold on BAT last summer. I have no regrets buying the car on BAT - it served exactly what I needed helping connect me to a car within my budget that met the specs I wanted, which I struggled to find through other means. FWIW, I also bought a second e9 via the forum that I'm planning to restomod. Both routes work, and I enjoyed the process both ways, but I completely support a seller if they want to go the BAT route as I think it serves a helpful purpose in the market.

Rey's 530 looks amazing and I love seeing all of the photos, conversation, and engagement focused on it on BAT - if it was more privately listed I would miss out on all of that.

@offpage, when you buy a car or anything from our friend @craterface ... you benefit from buying from a true car guy with tons of knowledge, experience and somebody who goes out of his way to make everything work out correctly with no surprises. same is true with our friends @HB Chris or @sfdon ... class guys. i have purchased items from all of them and you just can't go wrong. my point, you chose the right person to buy from. From everything i have every heard about Rey ... similar press.

i know they have issues. i do have 2 of them already. some day i am going to try it.

Any time I buy a used car, I try to buy from a private party and to evaluate the seller. Obviously, if you can speak directly to the seller you can get a feel for how well they cared for the car they are selling. But sometimes you have to do it through paperwork and looking at little things on the car (usually a car that is very clean around the accelerator pedal has been owned by someone who likes to keep their cars clean, for example).

I bought my e34 years ago because the seller had a detailed log of all of his gasoline purchases, with mileage and mpg computations. People who keep records like this care well for their cars.

Was hoping someday I could get this car back since I was so dumb to sell it. Of course it’s not really the same car I sold anymore. Seems to be attracting some pretty strong bids.
