It’s funny I have never been sent a video link so many times before. People I haven’t talked to in a couple years.
They didn’t really get too much into the provenance of the car. The letter from BMW gave production figure in line with the original run of South African built cars. Over 1100 were built with the E28 interior (as they didn’t get the E28 until 1985). Lack of sound deadening is interesting but not sure how that homologates something without unique parts. I guess it’s hard to know exactly what the car is but regardless of whether or not it is actually a homologation special in the spirit of the 530 MLE, it is an interesting find. I wish they had gone more into what he learned from Tony Viana and others about the effort. Amazing it was so well preserved all these years in what seemed to be a low-end storage situation in a really damp location.
I have to say I was pretty concerned the pistons were hitting the valves.
I do hope there are more updates on recommissioning the car.
