E12 steering box on 3.0CS

Hello,

Do you know if it's possible to replace a 3.0CS powered Steering box by that of E12 ?
On the ETK they look similar but steering ratio is 15,7:1 for the 3.0CS and 14,5:1 for the E12.

In my case, my E9 steering box is dead and I can have easily an E12 535i one.

I'm not 100% sure but If I had to guess I would say that it probably will fit. BMW are always slow to change stuff on their cars (if it aint broke don't fix it) and parts are often interchangeable e.g. I wanted a spigot bearing for the prop shaft (drive shaft in the US) it is no longer available for the CS so i took a gamble and ordered one for a E36 and it was a direct fit.

Fixings are different, just compared a rhd e12 and lhd e9. e12 are wider and longer ctr to ctr. I can measure later if required.

I think it may be an E3 box. The mount bolt holes are the same as an E9 and it fits straight onto the linkages with about 4 and a 1/4 turns lock to lock.

E3 works. Does this one look different from what you are working on? Or are you replacing PS? You can use it if you want on your E9, but if replacing PS you'll need a longer steering shaft and it might hit if you have tube headers. It is almost certain E3, though it is possible E9, was there even E9 manual used in 1969? Possible but they were SO "here's our flagship" the first year or two. PS was crap but "high end" and they weren't thinking zoom zoom yet for the public. Date casting on yours is 1969. Had already been used the previous year in E3. The one in the pictures has been cleaned up and end and side plates painted with new cad-finish hardware. But new all pieces were bare metal (no paint or surface finish.) Comparing to an NOS RHD manual box I have here with a date casting of 4.72, another difference is the side plate is plain sheet on yours, the sample here side plate is cast. The ZF ID tag numbers are different also, but expected due to dates? Does ANYone know the various ZF numbers for various ratios ??!??!
