Hi Guys,

I was researching engine conversions and ran into a few threads that mentioned the rear subframe w/ differential could possibly fit into an E9.

But I could not find any information or supporting evidence. I know the E28 uses a coil-over rear shock/spring.

It would be great if the subframe/differential was interchangeable. The later diffs are much more common and reasonably priced.

Does the E9 trailing arm bolt into the E28 subframe?

It would be great to confirm or put to rest this topic.

Thanks,

Marco

I read through that thread before. It really didn't give a clear answer. I'm hoping someone who has done (or attempted) can clear this up.

I have an E9 subframe out of car I can measure if anyone has an e28 subframe we can get some ball park numbers.

The E28 rear subframe bolts right into the E3 chassis with some minor tweaks, but the E3 and E9 have a different spring and shock arrangement. You would need to make some structural changes to fit the E9.

Hi John,

I found a thread that someone posted who tried to fit the E28 rear end. The mounting points for the subframe line up. But the trailing arms are the problem.
