I may have the opportunity to buy a 1975 3.0Si parts car and wonder just what parts are compatible with the E9? I have searched the forum with little luck. Thank you!

other than drivetrain, probably very little.

I'm thinking:

  • evaporator
  • grilles (some holes may be different though for mounting)
  • manual or power mirrors
  • power window motors (???)

Off the top my head in no particular order

Headlights
HL grills
Kidney
Chin
Motor
Wiring
Front subframe
Calipers (plus your spacers)
Strut housings
Ashtrays
Door stays,
Arm rests
Parking brake lever
Pedal cluster
steering wheel
heater box
AC evaporator
wheels
wiper motor
horns
wiper splines (pivots and linkages don’t work)
Can relays
voltage regulator

75 has different struts, control arms and tension rods so be careful with these. Wiring is unique and you can only harvest bits of it and connectors and such. Window motors remained sardine can style.

+1 for a definitive E3/E9 interchangeability of parts list. (Can we start a 'sticky' topic thangy?!)

I'll add and please do correct if I am not:

- power window rocker switches (door & center console) ??
- front door manual roll-up window regulators (not sure if rear E3 door window regulators are same as their fronts-??)

Window regulators are not compatible, window switches for Sardine style only.

Based on the replies it would be very valuable to begin a compatibility list. If these great vehicles are being abandoned rather than restored, it could be a real asset to the e9 community to harvest as many serviceable parts as possible from them before they meet their Crusher.

FYI Pedal-„Box“ is different from e3. Looks very the same, but you can not mount it on e9.

had to buy 3 pedal boxes until I got a real e9 one.

julianCS- did you keep the first 2 pedal boxes that did not fit? Do they still have pedals in them?

By now you know that all manual pedal sets are the same and are used in both the e3 and e9 models. It is just the pedal box that is different.
if you have sets of manual pedals from the e3, I’m interested.
Not the box - just sets of pedals from the e3 boxes you bought.

Yes this is why I said pedals and not pedal box. I of course first learned this from @sfdon when he bought my CSI pedals several years ago.

Sad story from me as an old guy years ago picking parts in a junk yard famous for what a swamp it was. Two hours in the rain and finally the pedal box is out and a buddy walks by and says “what are you doing?”
I say “look- I got the pedal box for my 5 speed conversion!”

and he said “Dude - you only need the pedals, not the box”

f**k

Since pedals and boxes came up in the thread, Dos anybody know if the pedals/box from the early e9 coupe (2000 cs)is compatible with later cars? If so, I’m slowly parting items off this car. Slowly is the key word.
