E9 body weight

the weight as reported includes the drivetrain, interior, etc. the weight of the body for a rotisserie is a whole lot less. wheels, suspension, interior, engine + tranny have to weigh close to 1000 lbs. if you take the doors, hood, trunk lid and glass off i bet you will be down closer to 1600 lbs. pure guess on my part ... i do NOT know the real weights. i have picked up the hood, the trunk lid, the seats, etc ... and i know they weigh a lot.

Alvaro, as I have my bare chassis on a dollie, I feel that I should be able to measure this for you. However, I do not have plans to take it off the lift anytime soon (I have it leveled and clamped in place). Sorry. If you do not have this answered when I have an opportunity, I'll let you know.

Alvaro / Stephen ... since you have all the pieces off of the car, it might be easier to weigh the removed pieces. i also forgot the lightweight (humor) bumpers. so the unladen weight might be well below 1500 lbs / 700 kg

you might want to create a list of each item and see if people can weigh things that are removed from their coupe. then you can subtract them from the laden weight.

On second thought, if someone nearby had a set of vehicle weight pads, perhaps we could just set the chassis/dolly down on the four pads, unclamp the dolly from the lift for a moment to let it free, get a weight, and then clamp it right back up. It should probably hold its level (or not take much to re-tweak it). I just don't have the 4-pad weight tool. It will be very easy to calculate and substract the weight of the dolly I built and the four castors. What I won't have is the weight of the missing, corroded metal I haven't replaced yet. But we can guess...

My shell was quite easy to lift and move around, so my guess would be that an empty shell can't be much more than 300 - 350kg.

But you gotta have a safety factor, so a dolly for holding 1000 pounds ought to have an ultimate capacity of 3000. Doing so will resist flex if you have an uneven floor... and (hint, pro tip, not mine) might keep distortion limited so you have an easier time reinstalling the windshield.

My guess is about 800lbs.

Context… When I didn’t jed my carcass it weighed 440lbs. That was without *some of the hood, nose, rear fenders, doors, roof, trunk, and parcel shelf.

At the time I was under my typical self-induced time crunch to get rid of the shell. In retrospect there were several bits I should have kept. Not excluding the frame rails and the rear seat support that @autokunst had to fabricate.

I think Robert is about right. I looked up the cost of corner weight setup and it is many hundred dollars. But I could buy (4) digital bathroom scales for about $10 each...

I saw a video of some guys trying to weigh their race car with 4 bathroom scales and the weight shattered them. But a bare E9 body shouldn't be a problem if the stress is distributed across the tops.
