A well-known Southern California BMW shop suggested Lakewell Automotive (Holland?) for purchasing a replacement carpet kit. Does anybody have any comments or suggestions on Lakewell or an alternative? Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

never heard of Lakewell ... anybody in the EU heard of them / have any experience? my guess is they bought product from KHM (cabrio.de).

for the 'what-its-worth' category. my car came to me with carpet from World (15 years ago). the product and the workmanship was just okay. i bought a set from KHM, both product and workmanship was much better ... but the fit was not quite as good as i would like it to be. if i replace it, i will go with GAHH ... or make custom templates to have a set custom made. that being said, GAHH does not make a trunk carpet for the coupe. and last i asked, they had zero interest in getting a pattern / making one.

If the E9 trunk mat is like the E24, Home Depot sell an in door out door carpet that is very close. I think it is close enough that I will use it

the e9 trunk mat is not a rectangle, it is shaped around the wheel arches and along the trunk edge. the 74 trunk mat is more rectangular due to the bumper braces.

the only 2 basic sources were World and Cabrio.de (KHM). the good news is that making a template for the trunk carpet is pretty simple, then its just cutting and edging.

Doesn't someone here well the trunk carpet... Maybe I am misremembering

Coupeking offers new trunk carpets for E9 and E3, in three different colors...

At that price not sure why you would even try to make it yourself… well unless you don’t like the three colors offered.

Lakewell makes very nice reproduction pieces (some indistinguishable from original parts) for early 911's and some other Euro marques. I've never investigated what they make for the E9.

I agree with Scott. It is just a flat piece of carpet. Easy to template over your choice of material. At this point in the E9 lifecycle, cutting a flat piece of trunk carpet, then adding edging, should be a simple exercise. then on to the next thing! ;)
