This idea may be way ahead of its time....or behind! But in any case, Peters recent post for a free e24 got me thinking.....

What if there was a free or really cheap e9 somewhere out there....It would probably need everything, but maybe the companies working on it can trade their work for free advertising on the car?

I know the idea is far fetched, but I also know we have the members to do it.....

So companies donate their parts or service, and the car tours vintage events and is available to all the sponsors at any time (according to a schedule of course).

I am just thinking out loud, but its just a thought.

Cheers,

MF

Well there is that car in CT...
Your next step would be calling each company who may want to sponsor parts of the restoration and ask.

You may need a total commitment of $20k and the car will probably look like something out of NASCAR

E9 forum car

We must give lafngrvy an offer he can't refuse to put an e9coupe.com sticker on his Luigi CSL. Sacrilege for period correctness I know, but a great way to spread awareness.

Our e9coupe.com badges are tasteful but hard to read or notice beyond 5-10 ft......

Understated elegance, just like the car, or you could go full nascar. Badge would be nice, but the leichtweight version might cost too much.

E9coupe.com bling or not- Go Luigi!

Actually....I was thinking more in the lines of the Walloth Nesch e3 race car. We don't have to copy anyone else, maybe we can make a rolling sponsorship. Such that there is one main sponsor per event or photo shoot. There could be lots of press for such a car and the build sheet will always list the sponsors. Not bad advertising IMHO and certainly we would not be trying to restore a concours quality car--although that would be nice (BMW are you listening!!)

As for the CS in CT, I think that would be an excellent idea....and Ed G with the e9 sticker is also a great idea. Although not period correct, supporting current e9 enthusiasts should be a priority on such a car, but with taste so maybe at certain events or photo shoots.....

There is always kickstarter, we can make some sort of memorabilia package and collect money from all types of BMW fans. Although for a 20,000 project one might need to collect at least 50,000! ( taxes, fees, expenses...etc)

Cheers,

MF

I also think that the car should after a while.....be auctioned off for charity. It would seem too hard to hold onto such a car as a collective group and it would give us car guys a chance to do some good in the world. We could all agree that doing what we love and helping others out is a good thing.

The car would have to be more of a driver than a racer, but this is just one big idea at the moment. I am sure that if many people jump on board, it could be a fun and rewarding journey.

It is one of those ideas that are great in theory m73, problem is that is just takes *one* person who suddenly thinks he has more rights then the rest and it will go south.

I think you Americans see this is a lot in your HOAs?

But if it was going to be a thing I would go for a totally original one that would be placed in like the lobby of BMW USA or something.

I could imagine a CS in group 5 style with the Walloth und Nesh blue and white banner on the hood, Vintage Sprots and Racing on the driver door, Coupe King on the fender, The Werk Shop on the other door, La Jola Independant on the trunk, etc etc....

Don't get me started, my wife will divorce me...
