been working on refining my 70 2800cs / 2008 M5 design. Still working on a number of elements including a couple different flare designs.
I do like the direction and how we have reimagined a couple of the iconic elements.

The vent behind the front wheel somehow doesn't look right to me. Also, the wrap from front to fender is bland.

I don't have a large vocabulary in these areas so that's all I can readily express. The rendering looks all E9 (plus moderately flared fenders) and not at all M5 to me. Certainly there's no E28 angularity or edges present.

Looks good. The bumperless spoiler is nice. Maybe too chubby on the sides.
What about the driver side wiper wind deflector!

To me the key E9 elements are the Hoffmeister kink, the pillarless B pillars, the low waistline, the 120 degree angles at hood and trunk lid shapes, the small hood cutout, and anti aerodynamic grill profile.

I guess the M5 contributes staggered wheels, low to the ground, double exhaust, M badges, and ultimately horses.

Work in progress

Thanks for all the comments had the same issue with how the bumper wraps around to the front fender. Working on a couple iterations. Goal here is for the non e9 expert to see the car and know it is a vintage bmw but not understand the subtle m5 elements. The side vents I like and are functional with an led indicator.
Still want to do a couple other flare options too.
Please keep the comments coming...very much appreciate.

Duck tail and/or roof hoop spoilers?

I find the front view a little too rectangular and boxy - maybe pinch in the transition from fenders to air dam and flare out at the bottom to cover the front tires a bit more?

Like the side view as shown - maybe add the CSL rear bumper in colour (as in not black)?

I think the air dam is all wrong, doesn't suit the front of the car. Prefer one like this, it suits the car. Tried and true.

With the dark rocker covers the rear quarters look strange with the uplifted tail section underneath. To me it also makes the body look heavy, not lithe like the original.

totally agree and was working with my designer on the front valance this am.
I didn't include the rear view since I needed to clean up how the rear box flares transition. The lower rear valance we took design direction from the donor 08 M5. I will post when I get the front more dialed in.

also no hoop or rear deck spoiler ...trying to keep it clean

Beautiful car in the pic and I agree it works very well with the front bumper. I have eliminated the bumper and need to make something look factory and not screwed on...definitely a design challenge but I think we are getting closer...
Thanks

Reworked front valance

Have reworked the front valance...thoughts?

Lol

Lol....yeah....realistically need to get the design done and then start the engineering process on the chassis. Also the guys building this need to finish my 65 mustang first. Probably start fabrication first of next year.

I thought the car would be built by now.

Front air dam

I think the black strip makes it look too DOT, heavy, and not as artistic as the rest of the car.

"dot"

Not sure what "DOT" means but I had an earlier version with body color. I think the dark graphite works better with the accents in the rear but I will several version when we get the design worked out.
Thanks
M

DOT = Dept of Transport?

At least it does in Canada.

I like the side view a lot - even the pesky valence looks good from the new side view and the 3/4 front but something bothers me from the head-on front - which is a comment based on the previous view of it. It may just be the head lights and the rendering make them look cartoonish.

The front looks "blocky" - not bad "blocky" but not e9 - more m5 which may be where you want this to go. Might be hard to tweak/shape given the style of the flat sided flares - I like the soft transition at the top of the box from fender to flare.

The duck tail and hoop was more a question than suggestion - doesn't need it for appearance sake.

Awesome process to watch - great software for the rendering.

Yes, the Department Of Transportation, the bureaucrats who kill nice design through regulations, responsible for the +74 big bumpers and stance killing strut spacers

Was not sure since I couldn't relate that to dark graphite rocker...

latest versions...very close

Here is the redone side view and a rear 3/4 view. will have the front 3/4 and front straight on view completed shortly.
