Firstly, these are not my cars, but wanted to get this out to the community as I think they are worthy projects, and the sellers are long term, reputable restorers that are known in the vintage BMW community, and past supporters of the SoCal Vintage BMW meet. For you project hunters, this may be what you've been looking for.
Last week on my way home from OC I dropped by World Class Restoration in Riverside as Regan and Carla there have a couple of E9s and all the parts (complete cars minus engines) that they want to let go as they are too busy with work coming into their shop - they just can't get to these cars as much as they'd like to. You may know Kevin Kolozsvari's Anthracite E9, it was restored by Regan and their work was first rate.
They are selling two E9 projects for $7500 each, and both seem great candidates for later engine (3.5 etc) and 5 speed upgrades. The first is a '70 2800 with manual transmission but no motor. The photos on the trailer are when they purchased it a few years ago. Since then they have chemically stripped the outer body and sandblasted the engine compartment, trunk area, and interior body. The shock towers, firewall and spare tire area are clean. The floors have some holes but not worth replacing, personally I think you're good patching them up and moving on (just my opinion) The outer rockers need some repair, as they have some rot, but this is the only place I saw any issues on the body. Comes with all parts as shown on vehicle on trailer. It has a clean title, and on non-op status. Car is complete minus motor.
There is also a Malaga 3.0 that has not been stripped that is also a complete car (minus engine) - they have all the parts in storage. I didn't get as good a look at this one but it also seems a complete dry car.
Only head scratcher are the VINs, they are supposed to be a 2800s but the VINs are a mystery (to me at least) photo of the Malaga VIN tag below, as well as the title on the stripped car. As far as I know these VINs don't exist, but the title is there. My understanding is they have a clean non-op title on the Malaga car as well. I didn't notice the firewall numbers as I assumed having clean titles precluded all that.
Additionally they have a bunch of spare parts - for E3 and 2002 as well. Please contact them directly, as I told them I'd put the posting up and send folks their way - again I have no dog in the race, just trying to be a help. If I wasn't buried in my CSi project of many years and many thousands of dollars I would have grabbed at least one of these.
