E9 trunk lid tool carrier

Wow. Thanks for the advice. I’m retired and found my E9 50 years after I first saw one but could afford a 2002. I don’t (anymore) read German… did the new one come with tools…(just askin’). I can always find a new job…

Yes. 436.40 € is a lot, but an old one would be pretty much worthless. 55-year old plastic is so brittle that even without 25# of tools in there, it's likely to shatter on the first bump the car encounters.
Yes, but its 466.72 euro w/o VAT ... and we don't have to pay that tax from the USA ... but you may have to pay a tariff and shipping is at least 45 euro.

no tools included. on the w+n website, click on the UK flag in the upper right corner and it will show you the site in English.

No, I'm afraid not. And finding original tools - or reasonable facsimiles - is yet another obsession that many of us have fallen into. There are several threads here on the subject. Ebay is one source for used, German tools. A few bits are being reproduced.

Hello All: I'm new to the Forum and suppose that trying to find a replacement trunk lid tool box for my E9 is similar to looking for the holy grail. Any suggestions?
lets be clear, the new ones tend to break if you drive around with tools in it - bottom line is carry the tools in a tool roll and put them into the tool box when you go to a car show. if you want an old one just because its a lot cheaper and just to fill the space ... i've got an original one that has been braced (but i still don't recommend driving around with tools in it). i maybe even have a bunch of the spare tools. if you want to go this route, drop me a message (DM) and we can talk about it. if you find somebody on the west coast to buy one from, no worries. bottom line, if you buy a new box and you buy a set of tools, you are going to be spending the best part of 1,000 bucks.

See for sale section. I have a very nice original set of tools for sale

I have a new tool box on my trunk lid. Bought it back probably 12+ years ago when BMW made a run of these after not having them available for a LONG time (as I understand it).
I don't put tools in mine either. As well as the weight of tools putting strain on the plastic (new or old plastic), I found the old mounting holes in the trunk structure support (the metal the tool box installs to) was not what it should be. Mine had difficulty in supporting the loaded box from that standpoint (not even getting to the point of breaking any of the plastic tangs on the box). Basically these are sheet metal screws, so I just used the next size up to get a more secure installation of the box to the trunk lid- and I still don't keep tools in there. (I don't have a roll either - LOL). But I do have a phone and ... @sfdon on speed dial :)

And @RedRV8tor - I am not far from you (I'm near Lake Goodwin - off from Firetrail Rd.... Just west of I-5) Keep in touch...

I guess my car is a bit of a rarity, it had most of itʻs tools and an intact original toolbox when I bought it 10 years ago. However, after reading how many toolboxes have failed with tools in them, Iʻve removed the tools, including the red screwdrivers, and stored them for now. Iʻll get, or make, a nice tool roll for them. In addition, I have a more comprehensive set of tools that Iʻll travel with when the car is back on the road.
