Note: A unknown number of RHD CSi chassis were produced in the Karmann factory within the LHD CSi VIN sequence prior to introduction of the facelift CSi which had their own dedicated VINs. This is unique in that RHD 2800CS coupes were converted from LHD in the UK by the importer and not at the factory.

VIN Location

The VIN is located in at least three places: the heater bulkhead in the engine bay, the ring around the starter motor on the engine, and the factory stamped plate, also in the engine bay. US cars have the VIN stamped on the metal steering column cover. The VIN is also sometimes shown on a small tab, usually inserted in the windshield so it is visible from the outside, much like a modern car, this is typically found on grey market imports.
