Hi, after a number of years in Redondo Beach, and 5 years in storage, I finally brought my E9 to its new home in Tokyo. The car cleared inspection, etc. last Friday, just in time for the very rare (1-2 times per year) Japan E9 meet up, this time at the BMW Tokyo Bay dealership. I was joined by another American Stuart B. and his lovely 3.8l red E9. After first stopping by the only true drop in-drop out Sunday Tokyo car gathering in Aoyama, we moseyed over to the E9 meet. About 30+ cars turned up, an apparent single meet record. The event started at 9:00 AM, and went until 2:00 PM including lunch, etc. Very diverse group of cars and colors from all around Japan - Mie, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Yokohama, etc. Organized by “Maru”-san and Takamatsu-san, truly a nice event.

Will post more ‘E9 in Japan’ adventures as they occurs with the car now in hand…hope some of you come join us…よろしくお願いします

How it driving your e9 there?
Do people know the model? Do they react when you drive in that streets?
Fascinating

What’s the car parked behind the coupe in the first photo? At first I thought it was a Gilbern but on enlarging the photo I don’t think so.

Most of the owners are focused on authenticity, with a good deal of 1st or 2nd owners. Generally gatherings are quite formal, with placement order for pictures, seating at events, and strict nod to elders in the group. Many participants get dressed up. E9 popularity seems to be growing…many thumbs up. Will let you know more about the actual driving (of an E9 - been driving many cars in Japan over past many years) over coming months…

So cool.
On a related note I saw a LHD CSi project for sale here in Aus (sold last week) that was a Japanese delivered car. Wouldn't have thought be many of those.

Hi Greg

Great photos of the cars
Congratulations on moving to Japan

The RHD csl lookalike batmobile.. photo no3… could you get the last 3 chassis numbers for me plze
I do know of one similar car in Japan like this one
But it is green .. unless it’s this car with a colour change

This was a display car at the dealer the event was held. My understanding from talk at the time was the car was imported from the UK and is owned by the former president of a Japanese TV company. He was not present… No immediate plans to go back, but will stop bay and check next time…

Ah! That’s the one that sort of recycled a lot of the themes used on the Fiat 850 sport coupe. I didn’t recognize it because I’m not really familiar with the later front end, and that’s all you really see in that photo. Neat car to see.

I noticed the car behind the E9 in IMG_1270.. a Simca 1200 S Coupe? I'm not familiar with that car. I just saw a RHD Fairlady Z at the JDM show at the Peterson in Los Angeles.

Super cool to see such a wonderful collection of E9's in Japan.

Yes, that Simca is quite rare… Interesting cars in Japan for sure…more posts to come as we get out in the E9
