Do you really think that I forgot? I even said - send them to Bill. However, in the following days (long before the work began) additional information was provided about the e28 motor comparability with 1974+ coupes. Additionally, the article starts with the following statement:

It should work for any E-9 coupe however it is possible there will be slight variations particularly 74 on when electric window motors changed styles.

My apologies to you Scott and Bill for the misleading information. I guess I was surprised because I tend research the hell out of just about everything I do, buy, or have performed before pulling the trigger (I’m not just talking about cars). I shouldn’t assume that others will do the same and I recognize that not everyone has the time to do that.
 
I am sure we have all passed on misleading info, I know I have, it happens. I’m just surprised that Bill wasn’t aware of these motors, he has a long history with BMWs.
 
Picked up the car today. It is running like a champ. I talked with Bill Arnold about this specific issue and he said he read all the comments here but the fact is that when he took apart the windows and the engines it simply was not that simple and each required some additional trimming of some sort or another. The good news is the car runs better than it ever has and I’m looking forward to the drive home tomorrow.

Sorry to jump in but I have also a 1974 and I am kind of desperate with the slow movement of the door windows and not only that but even though I have cleaned and greased everything, they don't come fully down... and if you dare to do it, they don't have the strength to go up by their own and I need to help them by hand.

All that is to say that I am interested in the E28 swap that I read about earlier, but I want to clarify as I didn't understand it well: So I need four rear window mechanisms? that is from a a E28 four door sedan? The front ones will not work?

You can put in all the new motors you want but if you don’t replace the bump stops it’s all a waste of time. These turn into rubber brakes over time.

Yes, rear door motors only from e28.

That will be a little difficult as I just drop my car off to be repaired and painted. I don’t pick it up for a month but the other motors for the E 28 all fit and worked with the exception of this one.

Hi,
Will motors from a 84 and 86 5 series work? I have access to motors from both cars.
Please let me know because I promise the owner of the cars I would let him know by tomorrow afternoon. He wants $150 for all four. Another source who had two rears wanted $150 for two.
