electric radiator fan conversion completed

Still running the dual Spals; had one minor issue; engine started to heat up quickly on the xway; stopped and restarted problem went away.

Otherwise has worked well. Have the fans on a dedicated relay with the controller tucked away behind the driver side headlights.

Looking for pics, otherwise will take some tomorrow.

Thank you RJ.

A few more questions:

- Are you using the stock e9 radiator?

- Any specific reason you decided to go with two 11' rather than one 16"?

- Did you build a shroud?

- Where are you hooking up the temperature sensor?

Thank you.

Stock radiator; Used 2 fans because I was able to get a package deal with the controller- plus overall fan volume was higher in essentially the same space.

Had a very simple flat shroud built; forcing air to go through the fans, with additional rubber covered flaps that open up at speed- saw a similars setup on a Jag XJ-S V-12.

Biggest difference is the noise level. The stock fans were screaming loud.

IIRC, Sensor branched off stock thermostat plug.

I still have room for a larger radiator and if I keep the car, may do that.

Dual Fan Install Photo

Bo:

Take a look at the attached pic- the installation was tight, but i was able to squeeze both fans in by staggering them; I had the shroud fabricated as flat as possible so as to maintain easy access to the fans.

Hope this helps,

Shroud was custom; not enough room for the Spal shroud, and yes the placement was to clear the compressor.

"strip" is a length of rubber weatherstripping to get a better seal over the top of the radiator/shroud.

electric fan

I run only an electric fan in my '72CS as well. No mechanical. Comes on when needed, about when temp guage hits 3 o'clock. Efficient, dependable. Just installed new water pump and will be curious if there is any change to efficiency.
