Hi,

My engine will crank but won't turn over. Recently I had some work done on the clutch; it was tough to shift in and out of gear, but now it works like a charm. In the process of fixing that he identified why I was having a power drain problem; a wire to the alternator was frayed and in contact with another part of the engine. The mechanic fixed that too. Drove it home from the shop and it worked like a dream, until…I drove it a few days later and it died on me about a mile from home. It cut back on after a few tries and I managed to get back to the house, where it has not started since.

As I mentioned the engine will turn over but will not fire, so I assume I have air and spark. What I think is missing is fuel. There is fuel in the tank, albeit low ( I was on the way to the gas station when this started); but, I put about five gallons in the tank from a jug. However, I no longer hear the fuel pump start up when I turn the ignition. Is there a good way to check if the fuel pump is the problem (if you haven't guessed, I am no mechanic). The fuel pump should be relatively new as it was part of the carb to FI conversion that was done less than three years ago.

Advice is appreciated.

thanks,

Walter
