Interesting strategy to sell during the car week. I’m sure it will get lots of attention, but it might be hard to arrange a PPI if all the experts are busy?

Also several commenters have asked about rust and noted that there are no pics of the glovebox, rockers, etc. I’m new at this but the shock towers, frame rails and rear subframe mounting areas all look good to me.

The selling dealer is probably quite busy. They reasponded with a formulaic post that said “We recommend you look through the photo gallery for the overall condition and complete representation of this 3.0 CSi but understand that we are working behind the scenes to answer any and all questions posted below.”

That seems kind of weird to me? Why not post the pics and response for all to see?

I'm always very intrigued by lower air dam customization. This is a cool photo from the BAT auction showing the CSL air dam vs the modified 635CSi air dam..

Yeah the CSL style seems more period correct, but personally I don’t like the look of either. One of my favorite lines is the “smile” that continues from the front wheel arch and bends down under the bumper and up to the opposite wheel. Also I like the symmetry in the profile view where the front and back both angle upwards. It’s kind of boat-like in an oddly pleasing way?

Sorry I have a habit of derailing these BAT watch parties…

That dealer has offered multiple cars during Car Week before so they must do well. They have sold coupes but don’t really know them well and doesn’t answer simple questions. BTW, maybe 1% or less ever do PPIs and maybe 5% ever speak with a seller through e-mails, that is my experience, and I think it is crazy to trust commenters who know nothing about our coupes. It is very close to @OCCoupe

For sure Chris. Its amazing that buyers do not perform PPI and trust commenters. I just went through that on BAT selling one of my cars. One commenter who knew nothing instilled fear to my auction and derailed it. Hope this coupe finds a good home!

I have kind of given up on commenting on BaT auctions when I see something...
If the 'customer' (of which I am not one - usually anyway) does not ask themselves these questions (regardless of them doing a PPI or other due diligence), then I could talk till I am blue in the face and not have any real effect on the long term outcome.

All commenting sometimes seems to do is make me 'that guy' in the corner throwing rocks at the wall. Life goes on. If someone is making not the most informed decisions on BaT, so be it.

Yeah I just bid on 2 BaT auctions, won one of them. In both cases the sellers didn’t have adequate pics to assess rust, but both sellers were responsive and quickly put up pictures of the glove box and the rockers with the rocker covers removed. That gave me the confidence to bid to the top of my budget.

So I think it’s interesting that here we have 2 commenters asking for rust pics and also asking simple questions about the extent of known rust, and any history of rust repairs. And the seller says they are “working behind the scenes to answer questions.” Maybe that means they are working on getting pics? Maybe they are responding to questioners directly and privately? Either way it wouldn’t encourage me to bid on this car without being able to look at it in Monterrey

Nice to see Markos added to the comments about the Webs wheels. Note the driver's side outside mirror is forward next to the wing window. That's seems to be the regular position on Euro cars. The passenger's mirror must have been added in the USA in the typical position behind the wing window.
Also note the trunk elephant skin on the driver's side has holes for the USA red rear side light. The light must have been added to meet USA standards and then removed when the car was painted. They forgot to apply the black decal under the fender grills. Fifty-year-old cars with multiple owners have all kinds of things wrong or missing--and leave the next owner with E9 projects.

The different placement of the two door mirrors is weird IMHO. Let's assume the drivers side came first. Why would you not install the passenger side in the same location? Does the vent window obstruct the view.

It is weird. Makes me think of the Jaguar XJ220 that came from the factory with mirrors in different places

John--The vent window does not obstruct the view on the driver's side and will give you a quicker glance at traffic in your blind spot on the passenger side. Just look at modern cars that have the mirrors on both sides next to the "A" pillar. It's interesting to see the 2002 mirror on the driver's side is back next to the roll-up window on Euro cars, as it is on USA cars.

i wish i had filled the holes on my mirror so i could have moved them up. its so much easier to glance at a mirror further away to see cars coming up. of course that reminds me of one of my favorite lines from the movie - Gumball Rally ... 'the first rule of italian driving - what's behind you is not important'

I recall very little of that movie, saw it in the 70's. But if I recall correctly he ripped the rearview off the the car and recited that line :) Gonna have to see it now.
The power of the internet:

i agree, never had an issue seeing out of my mgb-gt. if i had filled the holes to move my mirror, i would have moved it as close to the vent window as possible and still have it open.

Talbot 333 mirrors bought in Germany in 1983 with the larger oval lens were fine in traffic. The 2000CS had them with the round mirrors.

The car with the best mirror placement that I have owned was an MGB. The stock staggered mirror placement nicely covered the "blind spots" and did not take much turn of the head.

That is the asymmetrical placement that makes sense if one were to equalize the turn angle of the head needed to see the near and the far mirror...
