Exhaust system question

Greetings: I've been perusing past threads on this topic, and see there is a vast array of direction to take regarding replace/mods. My system appears to be oem, but the rear section's seam has separated, and I'm tired of temp. repairs. BMW of S Atlanta sells the muffler for $320, which sounds reasonable. My question would be; is that silencer ahead of it necessary($190)? I was thinking of just having a pipe made, and be done with it. That section does looks OK, but unfortunately is braised to the rear inlet, so likely has to go anyway.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Tomkinson sells it for $265.86. I cut out the middle muffler and added pipe - now has a nice throaty sound.

Keep the long resonator, remove the middle/center can and use the OEM rear muffler, great sound and not too loud.

Thanks Steve and Chris. I was hoping that might give a throatier sound also, so will go that route.

See if Classic garage has what you need. They often have NOS exhaust parts for older BMW's
