Looks like I need a whole new exhaust from the downpipes back. '71 2800CS, essentially stock with 32/36 Webers. If there is an opportunity to upgrade flow from stock without a fart can on the end, what is the wisdom of the group? Keep or delete the center resonator? Bosal, Eberspacher, Magnaflow rear muffler or something else? I have read the threads here from 2009, 2010 and 2013. Doesn't look like any particular advantage to SS in this application other than longevity. I'm leaning toward OEM or a custom fab unless you convince me otherwise. My inner street rodder is telling me to insert a spark plug so I can shoot flames out the back...

Stock stuff is hard to find here in US. I ended up repairing my rear muffler when I blew it out from a backfire. My middle muffler has been out for a couple years and it adds a nice tone without it there.

I haven't seen an SS system that keeps one of my favorite coupe details in tact, the chrome exhaust tip.

Please post what you end up installing, I will have to address same at some point.
 
Backfire did me in as well. Completely split the rear muffler. Scared women and children miles away. Turns out the rest of the system was overdue anyway.
 
sven and decoupe...go to guys if you are afraid of CK...we collaborated on many systems. wild to mild. Myself testing and rejecting. 1 3/8 down pipes, 1 1/2, 2 inch, to either 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 downstream. All custom. I run a set of short tube headers into 2 1/4, bung at the merge to the distance of a stock 635. Too much to list, please search previous posts.

I just purchased the SS system from W&N and always assumed I could still add the chrome exhaust tip. Is it because the outside diameter of the SS pipe is bigger than the inside of the chrome tip?

Chrome tips are widely available at your FLAPS. You may have issues getting an SAE-sized tip to match the metric OD of your SS pipes. Several solutions: crimp the inner end of the tips just slightly, a screw to secure the two or wedge something between them, it won't be visible and will hold the tip to the pipe.
