Expansion tank / Rad cap

Well this can't be good. The small spring that holds the dime size rubber valve gave loose today and is somewhere in the cooling system, and not in the expansion tank.

So does the water get sucked down into the heater core or the water pump?

note the center of the one on the left.

Barry,

Hose attaches to base of rear intake manifold, is joined by the return from the heater, then travels to front intake manifold base, then to water divider near T-stat.
