I had the car in the body shop for some work on the hood and driver's side fender. The side grill was removed, but it appears that the stand-off's (plastic nubs) were broken during removal. There were some screws that were protruding through the sheet metal from behind, but my memory from several years ago was that the grill just pushed into place.

Does anyone recall how the grills install? The parts book indicates they install with screws from the front (see below), but that doesn't match with my memory and the screws that were in place were from the rear.

Does anyone recall how these grills actually install and is there any special hardware needed for the installation?

I just had mine installed that came from Walloth. They come with plastic "stubs" that go through the body holes. You can attach them with tubing, inside the wheel well. My painter used hardline vacuum tubing to attach them. If you send me your email I can send you a vidio

ps- my "old" side grills were attached with a nut and bolt, and they kept breaking. I threw them away and got new ones when my car was painted

I recall there are pins moulded in the plastic grills that slide through holes in the fender. Then rubber covered steel retainers push on to those plastic pins and bite into them.

I also recall stories of them falling off over time.

I chose to carefully drill small blind holes in the on the backside of the grills that align with the holes in the fender, then install self tapping screws.

Please remember to stick the matte black stencil #17 on before mounting the grill. As said before, the plastic studs are fastened with one-way nuts that dig into the grill studs, and they don't come off easily.

brilliant! i think that is a great idea Don. definitely will be doing that when i get to that point.
