Still in the form i purchased it .
Will start complete strip down soon.
Have decided to change color to Polaris, with Tri-color stripes.
And also to keep the spoilers on.
Front airdam has been bashed about a lot.
So will require extensive re-working.
Any and all suggestions are welcome...

+1 on that; don't change the color.

My commuter car, a 98 Volvo V70R, is Safron, a color similar to Ceylon. I get comments on it all the time. Some -, most +, but always comments.

Personally, I love the odd European colors, and still miss my Golf 2002 (despite its one barrel Solex).

Polaris is a good color for coupes, but very common. At the Vintage at the Vineyards show, there were about 25 E9s and 11 of them were silver!

Ceylon looks great on your CSL - another vote to keep it.

If this is a democracy , consider one more vote for the original color. There can't be too many coupes in places BMW named their colors after. Let's see; there might be some Verona or Sienna coupes in Italy, Baikal coupes in Irkutsk (?), Nevada coupes in Vegas, Malaga or Granada coupes in southern Spain, Riviera coupes in the south of France, Florida coupes at Disneyworld, Fjord coupes in Norway, Colorado.... Ok, maybe I've disproved my point, but Ceylon is a pretty desirable color and Polaris is so common.

my 2c / i ahve a polaris csl that i bought on condition. if i had a choice, i would go ceylon. such a cool period colour.

Just another vote here for keeping it Ceylon.
There are enough silver German cars on the road today.

Ceylon even has a little bit of 'Elvis' in it.... 8)

cool color.

I have to agree with the prevailing opinion to keep it the original Ceylon. No matter what color you choose it is, and will be very nice.

I'm Turkis with envy.

Wow.. such outpouring of support for Ceylon!
Thanks for the input guys, but i think i am going to switch to Polaris.

Main reason being that I absolutely love the look of the Tri-color stripes on this car.
I would have preferred Chamonix, but since my 914 is already painted in Ivory...

One thing i am going to try out, which i havn't really seen pictures of, is to fix a set of period Bosch round fog lamps, just inset and forward of the inner headlamps.
PLanning to fabricate brackets that will extend through the bumper mount openings on the cowl area below the grilles.

Like this?

Yes similar, with smaller fogs, closer to the heads and of course no bumper.

Your car looks great! Very nice pics.

Have you had any cooling issues with fog lamps blocking airflow through the grilles?

And one more vote for keeping Ceylon. If you truly have your heart set on Polaris, then buy a Polaris car but keep this more-rare beauty Ceylon. My bet is that you can find a Polaris CSL owner who would prefer your car's color.

I would.

Another Vote for Ceylon

First, let me say Polaris is a beautiful color on a Coupe! It is probably the most common and popular. I absolutely love Golf on my CSL, and I would almost trade for the Ceylon though! Almost! CSLs are rare and a Ceylon CSL is an extra rare treasure in my humble opinion! Just my 2 cents worth!

...keep the Ceylon. A car like that should appear as original as possible.
Use a 3.0 automatic for fun.
I think the car looks great!

Agreed--Keep it Ceylon

Your color is very rare especially for a CSL and to change would seriously de-value your car.

If you're determined to have silver I'm confident there would be a silver CSL owner out there that would swap for your car!!
