Worn trigger points - which feed engine rotation info to the ECU - seem to be a common D-jet issue. Available from BMW at a price. Called pulse generators: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...0CSi&mg=12&sg=05&diagId=12_0943&q=12111360012
(And it wouldn't be silly to have a set on hand as Bosch has stopped supporting some other makes.)They are are wear items.

See "Dr D-jet" write up for explanation, how to test function with dwell meter, and some workarounds to avoid replacement. https://oldtimer.tips/index.php/en/d-jetronic/59-triggercontacts

Wash the old ones

Mine were not performing perfectly, so I washed them. First time I used white spirit, but that leaves a residue, so for a test I used petrol which did the trick. I am told that meths or dry cleaning fluid is better as it leaves no residue.
Good luck
